Christmas Card Illustration — Santa & Rudolph Take a Cocoa Break

A quiet seasonal illustration of Santa and Rudolph taking a well-earned break under the stars — created as a warm, character-led holiday greeting rather than another frantic Christmas scene.

A Christmas scene after the rush

Christmas imagery often concentrates on movement: presents, sleighs, snow, crowded streets and Santa racing against the clock.

I wanted this image to do the opposite.

Santa and Rudolph have stopped for a moment. The work can wait. They are sitting together beneath the night sky with something warm to drink, enjoying the sort of quiet pause that becomes increasingly valuable at the end of a busy year.

The humour is gentle rather than punchline-driven. The characters are familiar, but the situation gives them a little more personality than a conventional festive motif.

Why familiar characters still need a point of view

Santa and Rudolph are among the most recognisable seasonal characters in the world. That familiarity makes them useful, but it also means the illustration needs something more than the expected red suit and glowing nose.

Here, the relationship between the two characters carries the image. They are companions at the end of a long shift rather than symbols arranged around a Christmas message.

That small narrative idea is what gives a custom greeting its personality: the recipient sees a scene rather than simply a collection of festive objects.

Custom illustrated holiday greetings

Seasonal illustration can work particularly well when a greeting needs to feel personal rather than generic.

I create custom artwork for private and professional occasions, including Christmas and holiday cards, company greetings, birthday cards, illustrated gifts and animated greeting artwork.

The format can be very simple — one character and one visual idea — or develop into a more complete illustration or short animated greeting depending on the brief and intended use.

For company projects, the illustration can also incorporate a product, workplace, team, visual reference or brand-related idea without turning the greeting into an advertisement.

Illustrated for the occasion

The value of commissioned seasonal artwork is that the image can be developed around the people, organisation or occasion rather than selected from a generic library.

Commissioned imagery is individually created for the project and is not AI-generated.

And the original message still stands

Wherever you are and however you spend the season, I hope there is room for some quiet, laughter, good company and the occasional cup of something warm.
