Commercial & Commissioned Illustration for Brands, Products & Campaigns

I create original commercial illustration for brands, agencies, companies and institutions — from campaign visuals and product illustration to characters, packaging, corporate communication, technical subjects and hand-drawn motion.

Some assignments need a single image. Others develop into a family of characters, a campaign, a packaging system, a sequence of illustrations or a visual language used across print, digital and motion. The drawing changes because the job changes.

Commercial Illustration in Practice

Illustration has a job to do

Commercial illustration can attract attention, explain a subject, give a product personality, make information easier to enter, create recognition or turn an abstract idea into something people can immediately understand. The appropriate visual language depends on the audience, medium and objective.

Campaigns & Advertising

Key visuals, illustrated campaigns, promotional communication, posters, outdoor, social and digital assets created around a specific message or audience.

Products & Packaging

Illustration applied to packaging, wine labels, manufactured objects, merchandise and physical products where the artwork becomes part of the object itself.

Characters & Visual Systems

Mascots, recurring characters and illustration systems designed to work consistently across campaigns, training, signage, packaging, digital content and motion.

Corporate & Information Illustration

Internal communication, healthcare, technical subjects, training and public information made clearer through character, analogy, narrative and visual explanation.

Selected Commercial Work

Selected commissions, different visual challenges

These projects range from corporate communication and character systems to packaging, manufactured products, healthcare and technical learning. Each required a visual approach developed for its particular audience and purpose.

IN TALENT WE TRUST — PPHO Visual Communication

Paris · 2024–2025
Role: Illustrated visual system, original character design, conceptual illustration, information graphics, editorial and campaign artwork, motion

For Anne Weber’s PPHO methodology, I developed Léonard, a recurring illustrated character, alongside diagrams, visual metaphors and artwork used in learning guides, online communication and a campaign animation. The methodology itself was developed by Anne Weber.

Coca-Cola / IGORA — the product became the medium

For Coca-Cola Switzerland and IGORA Recycling, I created short comic sequences about aluminium recycling that were printed directly onto beverage cans.

The stories needed to communicate without explanatory copy, so action, character and sequence had to carry the message across language boundaries. The illustration was not an image placed beside the product — it became part of the product surface.

Top Source Washington State wines with redesigned labels, hand-drawn lettering and painted graphic elements by Ian David Marsden

Top Source — illustration inside a contemporary brand system

For the current Top Source range, a new master identity provides structure while hand-drawn regional names, painted gestures and individual color elements give the wines their own visual personalities.

The illustration is restrained rather than dominant, but it is precisely what keeps the system human and distinguishes one bottle from another within the range.

Mercedes-Benz — behaviour shown through recognisable situations

For Mercedes-Benz, I illustrated an employee guide using people, character and everyday workplace situations rather than presenting service culture and professional behaviour solely as abstract rules.

The drawings give each subject a concrete human context while remaining appropriate to a major international company.

RITZENHOFF — drawing for the object, not just for the page

From 2013 to 2018 I created original designs for the RITZENHOFF Designer Collection across decorated glassware, ceramics and collectible household objects.

Shape, curvature, print areas and manufacturing constraints influenced the illustration from the beginning. The image still needed personality, but it also had to become accurate, reproducible artwork for a physical product.

Dräger — making technical subjects easier to enter visually

My work for Dräger used illustration to introduce infection-prevention and hygiene subjects through familiar situations, humour and visual analogy.

The imagery could move between everyday life and clinical environments without trivialising the seriousness of the information.

seele — one character across an ongoing communication programme

For seele, I developed Oskar, a recurring safety character used across training, presentations, signage and animated communication.

A recurring character allows individual subjects to change while the programme retains a familiar visual voice. This is where character design becomes a practical communication system rather than a one-off mascot image.

Illustration does not have to stop at the image

Some commercial projects require illustration to become part of a larger system: product identity, packaging, navigation, typography, manufacture or recurring branded assets. In those assignments I can work across illustration and graphic design rather than treating them as separate stages.

Software Engineering Essentials — illustration as part of a complete product

A professional software-engineering training tool developed as a 60-card illustrated deck, combining individual scenes, four character anchors, technical iconography, visual taxonomy and packaging.

The commission extended from illustration into the complete visual system and production package, including card design, box artwork, icon assets and print-ready files.

Characters & Recognition

A character can become part of the organisation’s visual voice

Commercial character work ranges from a single campaign figure to a reusable system with poses, expressions and applications developed for future communication. I have created characters and mascots for corporate programmes, public events, technology, entertainment, human resources, safety and institutional communication.

Complex Information

When the subject is difficult, illustration can make the first step easier

Technical, scientific and behavioural subjects often benefit from an image before they benefit from more text. Illustration can establish context, show cause and effect, create an analogy or give people a visual route into material that might otherwise feel abstract.

Turning organizational concepts into readable diagrams

Alongside Léonard, I created rowing-team illustrations and star-based diagrams to explain cooperation, talent and performance within Anne Weber’s PPHO methodology. The same visual vocabulary was used in printed learning materials and website communication.

The Brief Determines the Drawing

Commercial illustration should fit the job, not the other way around

A healthcare campaign, a wine label, a developer-training deck and a consumer product do not need the same visual language.

I adapt drawing, character, composition, technique and level of detail to the audience and the medium while keeping the work original and specifically created for the assignment. What remains consistent is the thinking behind it: understand the problem, understand where the image will live, find the right visual idea and produce artwork that works in its real application.

More Selected Commercial Work

The applications extend well beyond the examples above

The broader archive includes human-resources campaigns, public information, regional tourism, technology, games, digital platforms, merchandise, character-led branding and motion assets.

Pic Saint-Loup

BD-style characters and humorous visual storytelling developed for regional tourism posters and public-facing communication in Occitanie.

Digital & SaaS

Illustration, characters, personas, iconography and motion assets created for digital products, interfaces and SaaS communication including iShepherd / TRM360.

Games & Entertainment

Illustrated identities, characters, game artwork, merchandise and promotional graphics for entertainment, events and audience-facing products.

Direct Collaboration

From visual problem to finished artwork

I work directly with companies, agencies, designers, publishers and communication teams. Some assignments arrive with a precise creative brief. Others begin with a product, subject or communication problem that still needs to be translated into a visual idea.

Depending on the assignment, I can develop concepts and roughs, characters, visual systems, illustration, hand lettering, storyboards and finished production artwork ready for print, packaging, digital use, presentation or motion.

Every commissioned image is created specifically for its project. I do not substitute stock illustration, templates or AI-generated commissioned imagery for original artwork.

Commissioning original commercial illustration

If you have a project in development, send me a short outline of what needs to be communicated, who will see it, where the finished work will appear and any practical deadlines or production requirements.

You do not need to arrive with the visual solution already worked out. Developing that solution can be part of the commission.
