Hawlik Gesundheitsprodukte — Multilingual Illustrated Explainer Video Series
For Hawlik Gesundheitsprodukte GmbH, I developed a series of illustrated explainer films covering different stages in the harvesting, processing and production of the company’s vital mushroom products.
The assignment covered the complete visual production process: adapting source texts, concept development, storyboarding, watercolor illustration, light 2D animation, editing and multilingual voiceover coordination.

Project overview
- Client: Hawlik Gesundheitsprodukte GmbH
- Project: illustrated vital-mushroom explainer video series
- Format: six short films
- Languages: German · English · French
- Role: visual concept · text adaptation · storyboard · illustration · animation · editing · voiceover supervision
- Visual approach: watercolor-style illustration with restrained animation
- Subject: mushroom cultivation, harvesting, processing and production
From technical source material to visual explanation
The starting point was a series of texts supplied around Hawlik’s products and production processes.
My task was to turn that material into short films with a clear visual sequence rather than simply illustrating individual sentences. The information first had to be organised into scenes, transitions and visual ideas that could be understood at the pace of a narrated video.
Concept & storyboard development
Each film began with a conceptual sketch and storyboard stage.
The storyboard established what needed to be shown, how one production stage would lead to the next and where illustration could make a technical or biological process easier to understand.
For a series like this, the storyboard also has another role: maintaining continuity between several separate films so that they feel like parts of one visual system rather than unrelated videos.

A softer visual language for a natural-product subject
The films were illustrated with a light watercolor character rather than a hard technical or corporate style.
That visual approach suited the subject matter: mushrooms, cultivation, natural ingredients and production could be shown clearly without making the films feel clinical or diagram-heavy.
The illustration still had to explain real processes, so clarity remained essential. Equipment, production stages, ingredients and environments needed to be understandable while remaining part of the same illustrated world.

Illustration in motion
The animation was deliberately restrained.
Rather than turning the watercolor artwork into heavily animated scenes, movement was used where it helped guide the eye, explain a transition or carry the viewer from one stage of the process to another.
Production from storyboard to finished film
My role covered the illustrated production from the first visual planning through to the final videos.
- adaptation of supplied source texts
- visual concept development
- storyboard and scene planning
- original watercolor-style illustration
- character and environment development
- light 2D animation
- timing and editing
- multilingual version planning
- voiceover supervision
- final video production

Six films in German, French & English
The series was produced in three languages: German, French and English.
Multilingual production affects more than the voice track. Different sentence lengths can change timing, pauses and the relationship between narration and image, so the language versions need to be considered as part of the production rather than as a simple last-minute replacement.
Because I work directly in English, German and French, I could follow the content and visual timing across all three versions while coordinating the professional voice recordings.
Professional voiceover production
The voice recordings were produced with professional actors and specialist voice agencies in the respective languages.
- German: Kaspar Eichel — recorded in Berlin at Livelive studio in cooperation with Sprecherdatei
- French: Daniel Beretta — recorded in Paris in collaboration with Titrafilm
- English: David A. Watson — in collaboration with Great British Voices
I supervised the voiceover process so that narration, pronunciation, pacing and visual timing could be brought together consistently across the series.

Designing a series rather than six isolated videos
A multi-film assignment benefits from being developed as one system.
Recurring visual decisions — line, color, pacing, environments, transitions and information graphics — create continuity between subjects while still allowing each film to address its own part of the story.
That is particularly useful for companies with several products, processes or educational topics that need to be explained over time rather than compressed into one long film.
Illustrated explainer-video production for companies & organisations
The Hawlik project demonstrates the full-service end of my explainer-video work: taking substantial subject matter and turning it into a coherent visual series across several languages.
Projects can include:
- script review and adaptation
- visual concept
- storyboarding
- original illustration
- character design
- technical or scientific explanation
- 2D animation
- motion graphics
- editing
- professional voiceover coordination
- multilingual versions
- subtitles
- delivery for websites, social media, e-learning, presentations and events
The visual style follows the subject
Not every explainer film should look the same.
For Hawlik, watercolor illustration suited a subject rooted in mushrooms, natural products and cultivation. Other projects may need a cleaner technical language, character-driven cartoons, business-comic scenes, diagrammatic visuals or a more graphic motion-design approach.
The format is chosen around the content, audience and communication objective rather than around a fixed house template.
